Distribution : These are mainly found at Mehsana, Banaskantha, Gandhi Nagar and Ahmedabad districts of Gujarat. The breed is considered as dual purpose, i.e. for meat and milk.

Conformation
The Mehsana is large sized, coat color is black with white spots at the base of the ear. The hair coat is long and coarse. Ears are always white. Both sexes has twisted horns curved upward and backward. The udder is moderately developed having large and conical teats.
Performance
Milk: Milk yield averages 1.0 kg/day, litter size mostly single. Average yield of hair per goat per year is 200 grams.
